Adonis Pleco 3-4CM Acanthicus adonis, also known as the adonis pleco or polka dot lyre-tail pleco, is a large and impressive armored catfish species. It can grow up to 1 m (3.3 ft) in length and has a dark brown to black color with white spots as a juvenile. As it matures, the spots become less numerous and smaller, sometimes disappearing entirely in large adults. For tankmates, it’s best to choose medium to large-sized fish that occupy the mid to upper levels of the tank. This is because Acanthicus adonis can be quite territorial with other bottom-dwelling fish that share the same space. When it comes to feeding, smaller specimens can be given bloodworms, vitamin-enriched brine shrimp, and Mysis shrimp. Larger specimens will enjoy prawns, cockles, mussels, crab, crayfish, as well as large sinking catfish pellets, algae wafers, sinking carnivore pellets, and a variety of fruits and vegetables.
